WHITE PEAS CURRY /WHITE PEAS MASALA

White peas curry-simple Indian curry made using dried white peas, served by itself or as an accompaniment. It is also a popular street food in various parts of India.

Delicious white peas taste amazing with hot roti, poori, kulchas or any pulav. This is a easy side dish to make as well.

Ingredients:

  • White Peas - 1 cup
  • Oil - 3 tbsp
  • Cumin Seed powder/ Jeerakam powder - 1 tsp
  • Fennel Seeds powder / Sombu / Saunf - 1 tsp
  • Cinnamon / Pattai -1 small piece
  • Bay Leaf - 1
  • Stone flower-1
  • Onion - 1 large chopped finely
  • Green Chillies - 3 chopped
  • Ginger Garlic Paste - 1 tbsp
  • Tomato - 2 pureed
  • Kashmiri Chilli Powder - 1 tbsp
  • Garam masala powder - 1 tsp
  • Turmeric powder- 1 tsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Fresh cream-2tbsp
  • Water as needed
Method:
  1. Soak white peas overnight. Take it in a pressure cooker, add water and pressure cook for 3 whistle till it is done. Let the pressure release all by itself and set aside.
  2. Heat oil in a pan, add whole spices and onions, Add chillies and cook till golden.
  3. Add ginger garlic paste and saute till raw smell leaves.
  4. Add in tomato puree and cook till oil separates.
  5. Add salt and spice powders and mix well.
  6. Add water and cook till raw smell from spices leaves.
  7. Add in cooked peas and potatoes and mix well. Add more water as needed and simmer for 5 to 10 mins.
  8. Serve.

4)Add in onions and green chilli
5)Saute till golden brown

7)In a blender take tomato ,ginger& garlic 
8)Grain till smooth
9)Add Tomato mixer into pan

8)Add all spice powder 
9)mix well


10)Add in cooked pieces and more water
11)Mix well. Simmer for few mins and keep for 5 whistles in high flame

12)after pressure release ,open it see peas cooked well add fresh cream

13)and herbs mix well
12)Serve it

Recipe notes:

  • This recipe needs overnight soaking of the dried white peas before they can be cooked.
