Ingredients:

  • Oil – 2 tbsp
  • Dry Red Chilli – 4 to 5
  • Garlic – 10 cloves
  • Tomatoes – 5 large chopped
  • Salt to taste
  • Sugar – 1 tsp

For tempering:

  • Oil – 1 tsp
  • Mustard Seeds / Kaduku – 1 tsp
  • Urad dal / Ulundu Paruppu – 1/2 tsp
  • Asafoetida / Hing / Kaya Podi – a pinch
  • Curry leaves – 1 sprig

Method:

  1. Heat oil in a kadai. Fry dry red chilli till golden and add  fry garlic cloves till golden.
  2. Now in the same oil add the tomatoes, tamarind and cook till it turn completely mushy.
  3. And transfer in blender and add salt.
  4. And grain till it turns into smooth paste.
  5. Now make tempering. Heat oil in a kadai. Add in mustard and urad dal. Add asafoetida and let it sizzle for a 30 seconds. Now add in curry leaves and fry it for 30 sec.
  6. Pour this over the chutney and mix well.
  7. Serve this with idly or dosa.
