SIMPLE PASI PARUPPU SAMBAR


Tiffin sambar /restaurant style sambar for idli or pongal

                                              
This sambar made with pasi paruppu/moong dal is so light on the stomach and very easy to digest.
This recipe is based on Thanjavur side region.

A great side dish for any of your morning tiffin...i hope you like it and let me know what you think...

Ingredients:

  •  Pasi Paruppu/split yellow moong dal-1cup
  • Onion-1 chopped
  • Tomato-1 chopped
  • Potato-1 large peeled &cubed
  • Green chilli- 2 slit
  • Tamarind-1tbsp
  • salt to taste
  • Red chilli powder-1tbsp
  • Coriander leaves for garnishing

For tempering:

  • Ghee/oil-1tbsp
  • Mustard seeds/ kaduku-1tsp
  • curry leaves-1 spring
  • red chilli-2
  • Hing/ perungayam-1tsp
  • Shallots /small onion-1/4 cup finely chopped

Method:

1)Wash and soak the dal for 15 min.Add it into pan along with water, potato, carrot,  turmeric powder ,cook in high flame for 15 to 20 min.




3)Now take kadai add oil and add onions saute for few minutes and add tomatoes cook till they mash well


4)Now add this sauted item to the cooked dal.Adjust the amount of 

water at this stage.





5)Then add  red chilli for taste and add tamarind water and salt to taste and mix well.simmer this for 5 min.



6)Take all ingredients for seasoning .Now make seasoning by heating ghee and crackling mustard seeds, hing, curry leaves ,red chilli and shallots .


7)Pour this seasoning over the sambar and mix well.Garnish with coriander leaves.



8)Serve with idli or pongal.
