Ingredients:

For the Masala

  • 1 Boiled Tomato
  • ½ teaspoon Turmeric
  • 2 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon Cumin Seed


  • For tempering:

  •   2 teaspoon Gingelly oil
  •  ¼ teaspoon Mustard seeds
  • 1tsp cumin seeds
  • 2 Red chilli
  •  1 sprig Curry leaves
  • 1tsp hing
  • 5 Shallots (small onions)
  • 5 cloves Garlic

Other ingredients:

  • 1 Boiled tomato
  • 2tbsp rasam powder
  • 1 pinch sugar
  • 1/2 cup boiled dal water
  • 1cup tamarind extract
  • Salt as per required

Method:

  1. Soak tamarind in 1 cup of water. Let it soak for 15-20 minutes. squeeze the tamarind to extract all the juices. Strain the liquid to get rid of the tamarind seeds and the hard flesh. Set the tamarind juice / pulp aside.
  2. First boiled the tomato and kept aside.
  3. Then mash the boiled tomato in hand itself. then pour the mashed tomato in tamarind extract and add salt mix well.
  4. Grind all the ingredients listed under masala into a smooth paste with and Set aside. Slightly crush the shallots (small onions – chinna vengayam) and garlic in a mortar and pestle. Set aside.
  5. Heat gingelly oil in a pan and add in the mustard seeds, cumin seeds ,Let it splutter. Add in the curry leaves, red chili , crushed garlic and shallots and fry for a minute. Add in the ground masala paste and fry on a low flame for 3-4 minutes until streaks of oil start to appear on top.
  6. Add in the tamarind extract mixer and a cup of  dal water, sugar little bit mix well. Let it simmer on low flame for 5 minutes. Add in the coriander leaves and remove from heat.

6)Crush the onion and garlic in pestle

7Heat oil in pan add mustard seeds and cumin seeds ,let it splutter
8)Then add Red chilli and curry leaves
9)Then add crushed item ,hing saute for few minutes
10)Now add paste mix well

11)Then pour in tamarind mixer and add sugar mix well


12)Now add rasam powder and boiled dal water cook for few min

13)Atlast add coriander leaves
14)Serve with hot rice
