BRIYANI KATHIRIKKAI CURRY RECIPE /BRIYANI BRINJAL CURRY

This is the brinjal(Eggplant) curry that  is famously served with the Ambur briyani. A nice gravy without coconut ,middle spiced-this goes well with famous Arcot  briyani .

It take sometime to cook down the onions and tomatoes till it is all mushy, so it melts into the curry and give the required thickness. There are so many variations of this curry will share all of them very soon..

Ingredients:

  • Oil – 4 tbsp
  • Pattai/cinnamon-1 inch
  • Black pepper-2 tbsp
  • Onion – 2 large pureed
  • Ginger &Garlic Paste – 2 tbsp
  • Tomato – 2 large finely chopped
  • Brinjal – 3 large sliced lengthwise
  • Green Chillies – 4 slit
  • Chilli Powder – 2 tsp
  • Coriander Powder / Malli Podi – 2 tbsp
  • Turmeric Powder / Manjal podi – 1 tsp
  • Garam Masala Powder – 2 tsp
  • Black sesame seed-1 tbsp
  • Peanuts/verkadalai -1tbsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Jaggery / Sarkarai – 1 tbsp
  • Tamarind pulp/paste-3tbsp or per taste
  • Coriander leaves for garnishing
  • Water as needed


Method:

  1. First roast peanut and  black sesame seed and make fine powder, And set aside.
  2. Heat oil in a pan, add pattai and Whole black pepper saute for a min. 
  3. Add in pureed onions ,green chilli and cook till raw smell leaves from it.
  4. Add in tomatoes, ginger garlic paste cook till it turns mushy.
  5. Then add brinjal and fry well.
  6. Add in all the spice powders and grained powder mix well.
  7.  Add in tamarind pulp, water  and jaggery. 
  8. Cover and simmer till the curry is done..
  9. Serve with biryani
